Grant Application

Introduction and Eligibility Questions

BALAY provides grants to established charities and organisations operating in the Philippines that provide services to support children and young people who are in need through poverty, poor physical or mental health, loss of parental or family care, abuse or natural disasters. BALAY invites online applications from organisations for grants through the application form below. Before starting completion of the application, it is advised that applicant organisations carefully consider the following screening questions. An application is unlikely to be successful if the answer to any of the following questions is ‘no’.

  • Does your organisation provide services to children or young adults who are in need through poverty, poor physical or mental health, loss of parental or family care, abuse or natural disasters?
  • Is your organisation formally registered in the Philippines?
  • Do you have a specific child-support program which requires support, if so, can you provide details of that program including an itemised budget detailing the support required from BALAY?
  • Does your organisation have an established policy and process for safeguarding of children and young people? If so, please provide a copy.

Guidance to Applicants

BALAY only supports activities and programs which help children and young people in need. The trustees will look to support those activities and programs which provide the best value investment by considering the benefits likely to be achieved against the size of the grant requested. The trustees are more likely to support activities and programs which are sustainable into the long-term, making a long-lasting impact to the lives of children and young people, helping them on the path to becoming responsible, independent adults. However, applications for the provision of short-term support, for example to deal with emergency situations, are also welcome. Organisations that promote volunteering and involve both past and present beneficiaries in their operations or management are also encouraged. Trustees will only consider applications for core costs of activities and programs and will not consider applications which include significant contributions to overhead or management costs.

BALAYis only able to consider applications for small grants in the range of Php 25,000 to Php 200,000. However, on successful completion of a funded activity or program, BALAY will be very happy to consider, without obligation, applications for further grant funding.

The Trustees favour small-scale, locally based initiatives and most grants are limited to a one-year duration. Trustees review grant applications twice a year. Please consult our online diary page for the latest deadlines for receipt of applications.

Please complete the online application form using your answers to provide details of the primary objectives of your organisation and who your target beneficiaries are. Please note that details of specific activities and programs that have been successful, and details on the successful outcomes for beneficiaries, are very important in our decision-making process. We are looking to support organisations with well-planned and executed programs which make a real difference to children and young people in beneficiary communities and who stand out in the work that they do.

As part of the application process, we may contact you for additional information.

Child Protection/Safeguarding Policy

An applicant organisation must have a Child Protection/Safeguarding Policy and Procedures in place in order to be considered as a beneficiary organisation. These documents will be reviewed against our own safeguarding policy and procedures, and where we find shortfalls or areas of risk, we will suggest improvements to the applicant organisation so that they may improve their policies and approach before any subsequent grant application is made. As part of the grant application process, our volunteers in the Philippines may interview organisations to ensure that safeguarding policies are understood and being followed by the organisation’s trustees and staff. See Child Protection Policy.
